Who is an ideal son?

As an ideal son, you have to be very cautious about how you manage the relationship between your wife and your parents. Whilst it is important to maintain a balance, you should not let one bond suffer because of the other. In fact, if you must be the ideal son, you need to also ensure that you find the ideal wife!

As you age, so do your parents. In the chase for a career, money and a good life, you may not often remember to give them that one thing they always wanted – an ideal son. And how do you manage that? Mensxp.com shares some exclusive tips with you to do just that.

1. Weekend Time

Weekends are the time you would rather recoup from the stress of the work week, and spend time doing things you like. However, do not forget that whilst your parents would not wish to hog up that space of yours, they would appreciate some time that you spend with them. Ensure that you sit and watch television with them, or catch up on the week’s events over a chat together. Taking them out for a meal or a movie is also a great idea.

2. Family Get-Togethers

Tough to endure, but a must-do to save your parents the embarrassment of covering up for you each time, family get-togethers are important to attend, at least once in a while. Not only will they feel proud to project you as the caring and ideal son, you will also actually become one in their eyes.

3. Anniversary Time

Your parents’ anniversary is the best time to make them feel special. A thoughtful gift may go a long way, but what they are likely to cherish more is the quality time spent together and perhaps the quiet dinner you take them out to!

4. Non-Material and Material Gifts

Small gifts on birthdays, anniversaries and other unspecific occasions build and strengthen bonds. However, not all gifts you give have to be material. An hour or two of shopping with your mother, visiting them with your child on weekends, accompanying them to social events every now and then and several other acts count as gifts they are likely to hold dearer than many tangible items.

5. Wife’s Attitude

As an ideal son, you have to be very cautious about how you manage the relationship between your wife and your parents. Whilst it is important to maintain a balance, you should not let one bond suffer because of the other. In fact, if you must be the ideal son, you need to also ensure that you find the ideal wife! That may solve any chances of the emergence of any issue.

6. Holiday Time

Planning holidays and small trips with your parents can be a lot of fun. If you have a wife and children, try and plan at least one such trip together every year. There can be nothing more rejuvenating for your parents than to spend time with their grandchildren, making you, in the process, the son they would be proud to have! Being an ideal son can be as tough or as easy as you make it out to be. Always naturally think of your parents as your support system and the people you have to support for the rest of their lives – the rest shall fall in place on its own!

Which child is usually the favorite?

The survey concluded that parents tend to favour their youngest child over the elder. More than half of the parents quizzed said they preferred their youngest child, while only 26 per cent said that their favourite child was their eldest.

Most parents would claim that they do not have a favourite child, but a new study – conducted by more than 1,000 parents across websites Mumsnet and Gransnet– begs to differ. The survey concluded that parents tend to favour their youngest child over the elder. More than half of the parents quizzed said they preferred their youngest child, while only 26 per cent said that their favourite child was their eldest. 61 per cent of those who favoured the youngest said it was because the elder children are “tricky or demanding”. However, this survey does not coincide with another from the University of California in 2016, which stated that most parents favour their first born. These results came from analysing how the parents treated the two siblings differently, rather than from asking them who was their favourite. “Favouritism is one of the last taboos and can provoke a lot of guilt, so it’s important to say that feeling a great affinity for a particularly child – often, whichever one is willing to put their shoes on – is fairly common, and doesn’t have to be disastrous,” Justine Roberts, founder of Gransnet (Mumsnet’s sister site) said. “The distilled Mumsnet wisdown on this issue is that lots of parents like their children differently: the crucial thing is to love them all wholly.”
