Rachel asked Ross to take his boss’s niece to the opera, something she quickly regrets as Ross and Emily end up spending the night together in Vermont. Emily and Ross’s relationship happened very quickly and he proposed to her so she could move to the U.S. For the first time, the Friends (minus Phoebe, played by Lisa Kudrow) travelled abroad to Emily and Ross’s wedding in London. However, the wedding was a total disaster when Ross said Rachel’s name instead of Emily’s at the altar. Emily is willing to forgive Ross at the last minute until she sees him almost boarding a plane to their honeymoon destination in Greece with Rachel by his side. Despite numerous attempts to win his wife over, Emily and Ross got divorced. Later in the series, Ross finds out Emily is getting married and on the eve of her wedding, she calls Ross and leaves a voice message, where she confesses she wonders if they gave up on their relationship too quickly. However, Rachel was able to convince Ross to not call Emily back, due to how much suffering she put him through.
