You don’t need to have a PHD from Oxford, but some kind of intelligence can be a serious turn on, “try to learn something about everything and everything about something,” as Thomas Huxley once said – just as long as it isn’t football or COD, showing a passionate interest in something and having the knowledge to back it up will always impress a woman.

3. SPEAKING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

It’s no secret that hearing an Italian or French accent come from a man gets most women a little hot under the collar, so brush up on that GCSE language level and you’re guaranteed an impressed woman.

4. RECOGNISING DESIGNER BRANDS

Now you don’t need to become her new GBF, but recognising the double CC on her handbag or the red sole of her shoe will always impress.

5. BEING WELL TRAVELLED

As long as you’re not bragging about it, a man who is well travelled can be one of the most attractive out there. It shows that you’ve experienced new cultures, you’re open to change and hopefully if it all goes well, you’ll be travelling to far flung parts of the world together one day.

The detection of sexual arousal through smell may function as an additional channel in the communication of sexual interest and provide further verification of human sexual interest. This research by Dr Arnaud Wisman, a Psychologist at the University of Kent, expands on previous studies which have concluded that humans can communicate and detect emotions such as fear or sadness through scent. Sexual arousal is also identified as an emotional physical state. Findings were established through three different experiments where men processed the scents of axillary sweat samples from anonymous sexually aroused and non-aroused women. Men evaluated the scent of sexually aroused women as relatively more attractive and this increased their sexual motivation. This suggests that the chemical signals of scent alone can elicit a sexual response in recipients. Dr Arnaud Wisman said: 'The present studies suggest that men are sensitive to the olfactory signals of sexual arousal released by women. This research suggests that these signals released along with corresponding visual and auditory expressions of sexual interest can produce a stronger overall signal that increases sexual motivation. Sexual interest may entail more than meets the eye and we hope that the current findings encourage further research to examine the role of sexual olfactory signals in human communication.'
