Read More »Until recently, my male friends greatly outnumbered the females I counted as comrades. I've never been a tomboy, but I've always found it easy to be around men because they make it easy to be there. With male friends, there's little judgment, a lot of candor, and a ton of fun. Here's why I think every woman should count at least one guy as a BFF. 1. They don't commiserate with crazy. No, I'm not calling women crazy, but we do have thoughts that straddle the line between totally rational and out of this world, like when I convince myself I've got thunder thighs. Women tend to dive into the dramatic fray, saying, "Thunder thighs are the worst! Mine are getting so big I can barely pull my pants up!" Men, on the other hand, give you a sideways glance and tell you just where you can put that load of crap, while reminding you that if you do, in fact, have thunder thighs, you better stop your whining and hit the gym. I love that kind of honesty. 2. You see into the male mind (and, yes, you realize it's a scary place). While your guy friends are likely on their best behavior when they're with you, you're still viewing them in their natural state—a mental space where they're not trying to win your undying affection and can be free to shoot straight with how they think and feel. Got questions about sports, how often men really watch porn, or the sexiest look for a first date? You'll soon have the unabridged answers. 3. They've got a sixth sense about the guys you date. If only I'd listened to my male friends, I likely could have saved myself from many a heartache. They can tell when a guy just isn't that into you, is only searching for sex, or is making excuses for his odd and unpleasant behavior. My females friends have often zipped their lips and hoped for the best, but my male friends have never been afraid to tell me to head for the hills or hitch my wagon to a really good one. 4.
