Read More »That word ‘love’ has been an inspiration for many songs, poems and even life-changing events. Many people get married in the name and for the sake of love. Today love has become a mixed up term with little meaning and people have become confused about love. 1 John 4:8 tells us that “God is love”. Our world with its shallow and selfish view of love, has turned these words around and contaminated our understanding of love. Many in the world think that love is what makes a person feel good and that it is all right to sacrifice moral principles and others’ rights in order to obtain such “love”. But that isn’t real love, that is selfishness. God is not that kind of ‘love’. We can learn what real love is from God, who is holy, just and perfect. If we truly know God, we will love as he does. Love involves unselfish service to others; to show it gives evidence that you care. In Corinthians 13:4-7, Paul reminds us that God’s greatest gift to us is love. To know God is the only way to know what real love is. “He showed us his kindness and love. He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy”. Titus 3:4. Out of love, God saved us, out of His grace and mercy. This verse describes Jesus, our Savior, who saved us out of love. Because of that we are able to live in this world and not fret at every potential disaster. We can have lives that are filled with joy and contentment. We can have lives that are reflective of God’s love because we live our life knowing what is good and right and trying to live that way, all because of God’s love. We see God’s love for us in sacrificing His only son is the greatest of all gifts. “There are three things that will endure; faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 Faith is the foundation and content of God’s message; hope is the attitude and focus; love is the action. When faith and hope are in line, you are free to love completely because you understand how God loves. Please join us this Sunday as we celebrate the birth of Jesus and His gift of love.
