Modern dating is a tough game. Whether you use apps or like to go old school and attempt to meet potential new partners IRL, everyone’s relationship history is unique to them – and there’s no right or wrong way to do it, either. However, we’re always interested to find out the stats around modern dating. For example, online dating site Match.com surveyed 2,000 people about their relationships, to find out the most common age that people meet their significant other, as well as when other common milestones occur, such as the first ‘I love you’, the first time they met the parents and the first time they held hands. Before reading on, if you’re yet to meet The One, don’t read too much into these numbers. They might be the average but plenty of people’s relationship timelines fall completely differently – life would be boring if it followed a predictable formula. Getty ImagesAs it happens, the average age people meet their other half is different for men and women. On average, women meet The One at the age of 25, while men find their life partner at 28 years old (there was no data collected for non-binary people). Other findings in the study included that people wait five months to say ‘I love you’, but that it takes an additional month on top of that to be given your own drawer at your partner’s home. First kisses happen much sooner: 31 per cent of respondents said they would kiss on the first date if things were going well, while interestingly 34 per cent say they would wait up to two weeks before holding hands. Twenty seven per cent reported waiting one to two weeks before sleeping with a partner for the first time, but another 23 per cent admitted to waiting a month before diving under the covers. Your first argument with a partner is always going to happen at some point, and according to Match.com these normally occur around six months into a relationship. The six month mark is also on average when people introduce partners to their family for the first time. Looking towards the future, 33 per cent have their first conversation about what the future holds within one year. Engagements typically take place after two years, with weddings happening after three and kids coming along around the four year mark. Is soulmate stronger than twin flame?

While soul mate relationships are often less intense, twin flame relationships can be extremely chaotic. "Twin flame relationships can be much deeper and more profound than a soul mate partnership because they lead to wholeness," Kaiser says—but that's if both people have done their soul's work.

The main difference is the idea that twin flames are two halves of the whole, where soul mates are not. While twin flames are thought to be one soul split into two bodies, soul mates are simply two separate souls that are extraordinarily linked. But on top of that, Spinelli adds that twin flame relationships can quickly become toxic, unlike a soul mate connection. "In a twin flame relationship, your twin flame may mirror your own issues, unhealthy habits, or imbalances. In addition, when twin flames are apart, they may have a hard time functioning," Spinelli explains. "You may also end up defining your self-worth by the relationship." This makes them great for encouraging growth and awakenings, but again—difficult to make work in the long run. Soul mate relationships are often much more stable, with Spinelli noting "a soul mate is a person ideally suited as a life partner or close friend."
