Is it true what is yours will find you?

In the simplest sense, it means that no matter how impossible, unimaginable, or unattainable, if it's meant to be—if it's truly destined as yours—it'll find its way to you. It might take months, years, or even decades, but it'll get there eventually. This doesn't only pertain to materialistic things or ambitions.

We’ve heard of it at least once before, amidst heartbreak, loss, and lovesickness: There are plenty more fish in the sea. What is yours will find you. Despite the cliché, there’s some truth to the quote. The world is filled with love; you’ll absolutely meet someone else—or something else—that will ignite your passions and make your heart go boom as it had before.

But still, is this metaphor something we should abide by? Will what’s yours really find you?

What Is the Meaning of “What’s Yours Will Find You?”

The quote, “What’s yours will find you,” is an age-old adage that can be found in both the Bible and the Quran. It’s been around since humans can speak, uttered in good faith and reassurance. In the simplest sense, it means that no matter how impossible, unimaginable, or unattainable, if it’s meant to be—if it’s truly destined as yours—it’ll find its way to you. It might take months, years, or even decades, but it’ll get there eventually. This doesn’t only pertain to materialistic things or ambitions. It can also refer to relationships, family, friends, and love in general. You just have to be patient and trust the process.

Does It Work in Relationships?

Here’s the thing about quotes, metaphors, and analogies: they’re purposely written to make us feel something. The quote, “there are plenty of fish in the sea,” is pretty on paper, but it doesn’t really work in real-life scenarios. Although it’s true—you’ll definitely find someone else out there, perhaps someone even better—you can deplete your stocks of desirable “fish” even faster. There are 7.7 billion people in the world, but it’s not like you can meet all 7.7 billion people and fish out the right one with a carefully thrown net. “What is yours will find you” is the same thing. If you take this quote literally, you might have to wait for years to find someone that makes your heart pound as it did before. It also sounds like it’s telling you that you shouldn’t wholeheartedly go after the person you love because, if it’s meant to happen, it will occur regardless of the effort you’ve put into it. Because love will “find you” no matter what. But this isn’t the case. Life just doesn’t work that way. If it did, finding love and the purpose of life would be much simpler.

What Should We Do?

There are a ton of factors that need to perfectly align for you to meet that special someone you’ve waited all this time, including chemistry, shared interests, attractiveness, age, location, and a ton of other lifestyle requirements. If you leave it as it is and wait for someone to rock your world without doing the searching yourself, it’ll be near-impossible to meet someone you’ll truly love. Opportunities and love prospects don’t just fall into our laps like a romantic-comedy film or an angst-filled romance book. If you truly want a relationship and you want it to work, you have to put in the effort. Look for it, pursue it, and invest some time in it. If it works, then it’s fated to. If it doesn’t, well; perhaps it wasn’t destined to.

Final Thoughts

Unfamiliarity is scary and intimidating, and putting yourself out there is terrifying, especially if you’re already used to someone or something specific. But if you really want what’s yours to find you, you have to actively look for it, too. Don’t wait for the world to do it for you.

"} It may seem simple or like it’s not a big deal, but he’s talking about doing things with you weeks, months, or even years down the line, then you’re definitely on his mind.[14] If he talks about a new movie coming out that he wants to go see and he asks you if you’d be interested in going, it means he thinks of you as being present in his life in the future. If he has upcoming plans like a wedding or an office party, and he mentions that he’d like you to go with him, then it means that whenever he thinks about a date, he thinks of you!
