After scrolling through limitless losers on Tinder, it’s no surprise that a number of men and women turn to their best friends — not for solace, but as potential romantic partners. In a study released Thursday by Bravo Media, more than 1,000 people between the ages of 18 and 54 were polled to see if the risk of dating a best friend is worth the possibility of finding true love. Turns out, of the 76 percent of respondents who said they’d struck up a relationship with their best friend, 29 percent resulted in marriage. Sadly, only 51 percent got their best friend back if the relationship went sour. Men, perhaps not surprisingly, seem to be more game for the possibility of a romantic rendezvous with their BFF than their female counterparts. Seventy-six percent of gents are open to a romantic relationship with someone they consider a friend, while 73 percent have had sexual fantasies about that person (versus 58 percent and 51 percent, respectively, of women). But getting intimate with an acquaintance can cause more harm than good. Sixty-five percent of participants confirm they’ve seen friendships destroyed by attempts at dating, and 60 percent have seen entire friendship groups dissolve by the same. Fifty-four percent of men would hook up with a friend if it came with no strings attached, versus just 22 percent of women. In fact, 42 percent of women would rather be celibate for the rest of their lives than have sex with their best friend. The one thing men and women can agree on? Planning to woo their friends in case this whole “dating thing” doesn’t work out. More than half of the respondents would consider marrying their best friend if they’re not married by a specific age. Want to see these stats in action? Tune in to the premiere of Bravo’s upcoming social experiment, “Friends to Lovers,” on Monday at 10 p.m.

Do guys always like their girl best friends?

According to new research carried out at the University of Wisconsin, men will always have an underlying sexual attraction to their female friends, while women on the other hand do think of male pals as 'just good friends. ' The study asked 88 pairs of male and female friends to rate their attraction to each other.

That line from When Harry Met Sally, written and directed by Nora Ephron, made most if us wonder if it was really true. Can you ever have a platonic friendship with a man? Well, now scientists have the answer: No. According to new research carried out at the University of Wisconsin, men will always have an underlying sexual attraction to their female friends, while women on the other hand do think of male pals as ‘just good friends.’ The study asked 88 pairs of male and female friends to rate their attraction to each other. Men regardless of whether they were attached or not, were more likely to be attracted to their friend, while women in general were not likely to feel the same.

Men also tended to think their friend fancied them back (funny that).

However, if the female’s relationship was in trouble she may then start to think differently about her friend and view him as boyfriend. Apparently they think evolution is to blame as men’s mating instincts make them constantly on the look-out for a potential partner.

Do you secretly fancy your best male friend? Let us know.
