How do you know if God wants you to wait for someone?

Typically, you will find yourself wavering and wobbling between your options. There will be no decision making for a long time. And if there are any decisions made, you'll still doubt if it was the right choice at all. This is a sign that God is calling you to a season of waiting, only on Him.

There are times when we stand on crossroads of choices, with the responsibility of making big decisions for life. We ask god for help and direction, sometimes, without an answer. And you ask, “How do I know if God wants me to wait on Him?” Still, no answer. So, we quit praying and take decisions on our own instead. And then, just when you’re about to press that final go button, God puts a sudden halt. Next thing you know, you’re stuck. The plans you’ve made aren’t going exactly how you’d like them to and somehow, something feels off. If that sounded like you, there is a possibility that God wants you to wait on Him. Here are 6 signs to look for in your life, which indicate that God is leading you into a season of waiting.

1. You can’t make a clear cut decision:

It’s easy to make the right choice when you have to choose between god and bad. How simple! But, what happens when both your choices are nice-looking, promising ones? What do you do then?

How do I know if God wants me to wait on Him or just go ahead with my plans?

If God is calling you to a season of waiting, you’re going to struggle with this question. Typically, you will find yourself wavering and wobbling between your options. There will be no decision making for a long time. And if there are any decisions made, you’ll still doubt if it was the right choice at all. This is a sign that God is calling you to a season of waiting, only on Him.

Does praying and asking for guidance help this situation?

Definitely.

But sometimes, you might not receive a clear “yes” or “no” from God. You might encounter absolute silence or God might tell you to wait. Then, you wait. Even if those choices come with deadlines and could be out of your reach if you don’t choose quickly. Sometimes, you might feel like you’re running out of time. Still, wait. Even if you’re missing out on wonderful opportunities, wait. Wait nonetheless.

2. There is no peace in your heart.

When god intends something for you, he puts a desire for that in your spirit. We are made that way- our purpose is to align with the purpose God designed for us. If somehow, you’re deviating from that purpose, it is going to cause restlessness in you. There will be an uncomfortable sense of discord even in your prayer. Something will feel off. Even if everyone around you might see something as an opportunity of a lifetime and everything is seemingly perfect, deep within, you will still feel like something is fishy- whether or not you acknowledge it.

3. You need to be pruned, polished and molded:

Yes, you’ve been going to church for a long time and you’ve grown significantly. Your relationship with God is solidifying and now you’re maybe also helping others find God. But, we are never going to be truly flawless and perfect. Deep inside our personality, there are a few habits or behaviors that we fail to perceive, but God sees them perfectly. God isn’t judging us. He loves us. And he knows that the next season you’re about to enter could be hampered because of some petty thing. God wants to purify you and send you forth, all brushed up and ready. That’s why God calls us to a season of waiting. Even if it can be painful sometimes. If god is making you wait before your prayers are answered, wait gracefully. Accept his pruning (John 15) and molding. Become teachable and humble; and allow yourself to be shaped and formed the way He wants you to.

4. You have this extreme sense of urgency to not wait:

It’s almost like someone’s pushing you. There’s something that tells you: ‘this decision has to be made NOW. It’s now or never. If you don’t decide now, you’re going to lose everything. Don’t be foolish and give up a golden opportunity.’ The tension keeps pressing.

You know who’s doing that?

It’s the enemy.

Waiting on God and trusting in His promises is the last thing Satan would like to see you do. And he will do everything in his power to prevent God’s purpose from being fulfilled in your life. This sense of dark tension and restless pushing cannot come from our God. If God wanted you to take that decision, he would tell you gently and lovingly.

Know the difference.

5. You see doors closing and plans failing:

God loves us too much to give us anything less than the best. He wants to save our soul and gives us more than we can ever imagine. And when we are so deeply loved, he cannot leave us to fend for ourselves. He wants us to lean on him as his children. If the path you’re going and the decisions you’re taking are going to be dangerous for you and especially, if they are leading you away from God’s protection, He will not let your plans prosper.

So, if doors are closing on you and there seems to be no explanation as to why your plans aren’t succeeding, there are chances your loving God is intervening. 6. There is chaos and confusion, but no confirmation in the decision you’re making. On of the ways to tell if God wants you to wait on Him is His communication with you. When God wants something from you, He will speak to you about it. And, He will tell other people who are close to both you and God. These people will confirm the sense and direction of God. God’s plan comes with peace, strong confirmation, joy and grace. When it’s not God’s plan, it comes with a lot of confusion. There will be constant restlessness, a feeling of chaos.

It’s a simple formula.

I hope you now have an answer to “How do I know if God wants me to wait on Him?” and that this was helpful. “I am sure that God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait.” C. S. Lewis I pray you are lovingly guided toward the season that God wants for you. And, if that season is a season of waiting, then while we wait, we do what waiters do: SERVE.

Watch: If you’re in a waiting season, watch this.

“but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
