If you answered yes to any of those questions, you could have more than one soul. I’ve listed the most common multiple soul traits in my survey, which you’ll find a link to at the end of this blog post. Multiple souls, also known as soul dualism, is an accepted belief in the doctrine of many ancient traditions and contemporary cultures around the world. Soul dualism proposes that a person can be born with more than one soul and that souls can exit and enter the body at different stages, for a range of reasons. When multiple souls co-exist in harmony and work together towards a common goal, they can benefit a person by giving them a wider range of abilities, ways of thinking, and a deeper sense of purpose and understanding of the complexities of life. But when multiple souls conflict over leadership and have separate agendas, it can cause tension and chaos within a person. In my energy therapy practice I’ve observed that about 15% of my clients ‘test positive’ for having more than one soul. How can I tell? Well, it’s not always obvious, so it's a process of collecting clues and using deductive reasoning while testing my hypothesis.

Here’s how it generally comes up…

Before I meet a new client for the first time, I do their energy assessment. (I do a lot of my work via distance, so if you want to know how that works, check out my blog on distance sessions.) When I find anomalies in the client’s assessment, that’s usually when I start to suspect that person has more than one soul and I’ll ask my pendulum for confirmation. If I get a yes response, then I’ll ask more questions, for example; how many souls do they have? How many souls were they born with? How many souls are ‘driving'? Are the souls all symbiotic? I gather as much information as I can at this point, so when my client arrives I have answers ready for them. After their arrival, I first give my client the opportunity to tell me what’s going on with them and I listen very carefully. Sure enough, in their health history will be more clues, patterns and connections - cause and effect.

As Dirk Gently would say,

“Everything is connected.”

Because the whole multi-souled theory is not yet a widely held notion here, I don’t spring it on them straight away. I wait until I’ve shared my other observations regarding their assessment and have shown them the connections I’ve made so far. Once they’ve said something like; “Ah, yes that makes sense”, then I’ll mention my multiple soul hypothesis. Responses vary. For some it’s a total surprise at first, but the more they think on it, the more it resonates. Their eyes often widen as they have several ‘ah-ha!’ moments because it explains a lot about their lives. For those who suspected their issues were soul related, it’s a relief, their missing puzzle piece has been found.

I’ll never forget the day I stumbled on the multiple soul hypothesis,

because it was life changing for me as well as for many of my clients. It was a typical day in my studio and I was doing an assessment for new client who was due to arrive shortly for her first 1-On-1 appointment. I could see that this client had a heart wall and an unresolved emotion of defensiveness, which was causing the energy flow to become blocked around her heart chakra. This had the knock-on effect of lowering her overall energy levels and causing her fatigue. It was pretty obvious to me that the highest priority for her first session was the removal of the heart wall in order to restore her vitality. Even so, I always double check with ‘The Management’ (my spirit guides) what the highest good for the client is. Normally I get a yes or a no response straight away, so I was very surprised when I got neither. I checked several more times and made sure I was wording my question as clearly as possible. Still no clear answer. I tried a different tack and asked if I needed anyone’s permission to dismantle the heart wall and I got a no. A bit perplexed, I turned my attention to the heart wall hoping that getting more information about it might shed some light. Most heart walls have doors, but hers didn’t. However, it did have three windows. I was curious. Why would her heart wall have three windows? Then it hit me. I asked my guides if this client had more than one soul and to my astonishment, the answer was a resounding yes! I blinked in amazement and just to be certain, I asked a few more times. The answer was a consistent yes! The next obvious question was; how many souls does she have? Of course the answer was three, one for each window. Duh!

This revelation made me rethink everything I thought I knew about souls.

More than anything, it made me question WHY I had been believing we only had one soul. I realised that most of what I believed came from the Christian doctrine, which was preached to me as a kid, but didn’t take root… or so I thought. The more I thought about this multiple soul idea the less it confounded my brain. If multiple births exist, why not multiple souls? Perhaps souls chose to journey together in the same body for the same reasons people travel together on vacation, for the camaraderie, support and comfort of familiarity. I was intrigued to meet this woman and see if she showed any obvious signs of having three souls. She didn’t. Deciding it was probably best not to mention my theory right off the bat, I waited for the right moment to present itself. It turned out I didn’t have to wait long… Everything she told me about her health history and life situation fit with the heart wall and multiple soul hypothesis. The news of her heart wall didn’t surprise her at all and she was relieved to know that I could remove it for her. Because the multiple soul hypothesis had only been revealed to me such a short time ago, I still wasn’t feeling that confident about bringing it up, but I knew I had to. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about intuitive healing it's to spot when I’m having a ‘conduit moment.’

The Universe had its fingerprints all over this information

so I’d be foolish to dismiss it.

My client’s jaw hit the floor and I could see she was struggling with my hypothesis. But the more she thought about it, the more it made sense. I was astonished to learn that she had always felt like she had more than one personality and not only that, other people had noticed it too. She told me other reasons why she thought this theory matched her situation, including a story about the time when she was still in utero and the doctor told her mum she was having twins, which turned out not to be the case. This was a watershed moment for us both and when her session was over, memories about my own life began to flood in. I too had always felt like I had many different personalities each with different tastes and goals, which made making life choices more difficult than it needed to be. I’d been told many times by close friends that I was complex and hard to figure out, or that I was weird. I also remembered a reccurring dream that I used to have around 2017-2018, in which I was a passenger trying to drive a car from the back seat and the front passengers were obscuring my view, which caused the car to swerve. It took me a week before I was ready to test myself for multiple souls, not just because I was busy with clients, but also because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. You see, testing accurately requires stilling the mind, being neutral emotionally and not being attached to the outcome. To reach a place of neutrality about testing myself was a struggle, because deep down I knew it was highly likely I had more than one soul. That bothered me because after all the huge ups and downs I had been through, I was craving simplicity. I tested and retested and sure enough the answer was yes every time. Although the positive result wasn’t a surprise, I was shocked when I found out about how many souls I had. As the numbers kept going up and up I grew increasingly concerned. They stopped at nine. I was speechless and I felt like crying.

How was that possible?

What did that mean?

This explained so much about my life and I wanted to know more… According to my findings, 2018 was the year my last soul transition occurred. A soul transition is when souls swap places in the driver's seat. That made perfect sense to me because it was when my reccurring dream stopped and I had my existential crisis. Because an unfamiliar personality had taken the wheel and started making radical changes to my life, it was a very surreal experience. It felt like the Universe was overriding my life plans and course-correcting me. It took me a long time to used to the new driver, who was the frustrated back seat driver in my reccurring dream, because she was so different from the previous drivers. But my confidence in her ability to successfully navigate grew as I saw many positive changes occurring. For one thing she changed my career path and I went from being a fantasy portrait photographer to an energy therapist. A radical move I first thought was nuts, but now I see the wisdom in it. I also discovered that there would be no more soul transitions. This new driver was going to be behind the wheel for the rest of my life. That was a massive relief and it gave me a sense of hope for my future. The new driver was also deeply into the sciences and serious academic research. For the first time in my life I was reading highly technical books about quantum physics, genetics and the like and I found them thoroughly absorbing.

My stylistic tastes were also morphing and becoming more Zen and minimal, which led to a slow change of wardrobe and home decor that reflected my new found inner harmony. Ironically, finding out that I had nine souls had simplified my life and made it more enjoyable and rewarding. I wanted to know more about the topic of multiple souls, but there were disappointingly few in-depth or credible articles and books on the subject. The best resource I found was a book called ’Your Multiple Souls’ by Ruth Rendeley, which I devoured in a day. Rendeley’s book confirmed everything I had discovered so far and it was such relief to know that I wasn’t the only one taking this stuff seriously.

The deeper I dug,

the more examples I uncovered of cultures all over the world

which believe in soul dualism.

For example the Lakota and the Navajo people of Central America refer to individuals who have both male and female souls in balance as ‘two spirits’ and these people are revered as sacred among their community. That level of respect, which is typical among the many cultures where soul dualism is a thing, is a striking contrast to most Western attitudes. In her book, Rendeley confesses that it took twenty years to find the courage to talk about her multiple soul theory and her “soul rescue” work because she was concerned about how it might be received. Soul rescue is when an energy worker or Shaman acts as an intermediary and resolves soul issues, a bit like a relationship counsellor. One example of soul rescue work is helping a person pick which of their souls is best suited to be the leader and help put them in the driver's seat. Another is evicting any ‘joy riders’ who are not birth souls and have no respect for the body they are travelling in. It can also be bringing a more advanced soul into the body to act as teacher and guide for the others. With depression and anxiety now at epidemic levels around the world and an estimated 1 in 6 Americans taking medication for those symptoms, I think it's high time we explore alternative approaches to our mental health besides drugs and surgery. I can envisage a time in the near future when soul rescue becomes a complementary healing tool along side conventional medicine to help those with soul related issues. I personally believe that soul issues could be at the root of conditions like Dissociative Identity Disorder (or DID), previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder, and Schizophrenia. A soul’s energetic imprint (aka the biofield) affects the physical body and the mind like a blueprint, so if you can identify and resolve the soul issue, the healing of the body and mind will follow. Understanding conditions like DID and Schizophrenia from the soul’s perspective (not just a chemical perspective) may have the potential to not only help sufferers live a ‘normal’ life, but who knows, when empowered to embrace and work with their soul-differentness, we might discover these people have unique and extraordinary abilities that mono-souled people do not. Psychiatrists are already aware that people with DID can change their eye colour, voice and accent, handwriting and even their allergies and phobias depending which personality is leading. Soul rescue also has the potential to help those experiencing gender and sexuality issues. Imagine how confusing it would be to have body and a gender that doesn’t match your leading soul’s identity. Now imagine you’re that person AND you were born into a culture that frowns upon same-sex relationships. Finding out you’re multi-souled could help reassure a person that they’re not crazy, or defective, or evil. It could literally save lives. My multiple soul research continues and I’ve checked every client on my books, that’s how I discovered that around 15% of my clients have multiple souls. 3% of my clients have twin souls. That's when 1 soul separates into 2 souls and both souls physically incarnate separately.
